"Dewey's Nine Lives: The Legacy of the Small-Town Library Cat Who Inspired Millions" by Vicki Myron

 Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World was one of the last books I read before starting this blog. Though I loved it, I didn't review it. But I am pleased to review Dewey's Nine Lives: The Legacy of the Small-Town Library Cat Who Inspired Millions. To give brief back story, Dewey the cat was abandoned in a library book drop during an awful winter. Vicki Myron found him and nursed him back to help. He was adopted by the library and brought happiness to its patrons for the rest of his life. Dewey's Nine Lives has stories from others that were impacted by Dewey (stories that Myron was not aware of until after her first book was published) and other stories of those that have had their lives changed by the presence of cats.

I thought this book was excellent. Though the writing style was a little weak and I thought that Myron sometimes went off on tangents a little too often, the stories themselves are very touching and heartwarming. Those that don't have a soft spot for cats are obviously not going to get much out of this book, and probably won't enjoy much about it, cat owners and lovers will enjoy this read quite a bit. While I do recommend reading Dewey before reading Dewey's Nine Lives, it's not absolutely necessary, but if you like one you will almost certainly like the other. Thank you Myron for recording these beautiful stories!

"My Cat, The Silliest Cat in the World" written and illustrated by Gilles Bachelet

Kids will get a kick out of this book! The narrator is a little confused and doesn't realize that the pet cat is actually a pet elephant. The silly cat enjoys nothing more than eating and sleeping and eating, but sometimes the cat just can't avoid getting into trouble. Kids will delight in the craziness as we find out that the cat does not land on it's feet and sometimes has issues aiming correctly for the little box. This is a great book to share and ask kids questions about the story (what's going on in the picture, and that sort of thing).

I read some reviews that complained because the narrator never realizes that their cat is actually an elephant, but I thought that was part of the fun with this book. We know from the cover that the cat is likely not a a cat at all so I think the reader should just have fun with this book and not over analyze a children's picture book. My Cat, The Silliest Cat in the World is such a fun read and I look forward to reading When the Silliest Cat was Small and any other books that might come out.

"Raven" by Suzy Turner

The first book I read on my new Kindle!!

A great fantasy story for fans of the Twilight saga.  Lilly is growing up in a repressed world.  She doesn't realized that her classmates receive gifts on their birthday, eat non-straight-from-the-can dinners, and have parents that show love for their children.  Every day is exactly the same.  The only bright spot is when she is spending time at school with her best (and only friend), December.  It isn't until Lilly's parents mysteriously vanish does Lilly begin to realize how strange her life has been.

Her life is turned upside down (though not in a completely bad way) when she is sent to live in Canada with family that she never knew she had.  Lilly begins to discover secrets about her family and secrets about herself.  She also finds out that this is not the first time family members have suddenly gone missing.

Though I haven't read it, I suspect that fans of Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush Hush will also enjoy Suzy Turner's Raven.  From what I have heard, I think they are somewhat similar.  I am not really a fan of fantasy (I may have said this before) but I enjoyed Raven and found it to be an easy and enjoyable read.  If you enjoy reading about vampires, people that transform into animals and vials of blood, then this is a book for you!
