"Airhead" Trilogy by Meg Cabot

Continuing my Meg Cabot week is the Airhead trilogy.  Once again we meet a character who's life is about to be turned upside down.  Though, technically, Em's life is about to be gone.  Within the first few chapters we are introduced to Em, a girl who doesn't care about fashion but does care about Journeyquest (there isn't a whole lot of description, but I take it to be this universe's version of World of Warcraft) and her best friend Christopher (actually, she cares about him quite   bit, in the more than friends variety).  Em's mom makes her take her younger sister, Frida to the opening of the new Stark supercenter.  While there, a TV falls on Em.  The next thing she knows she is waking up in the hospital and nothing is quite right.  It isn't until she finally sees her reflection and realizes that she is no longer Emmerson Watts but her brain has been moved into the body of supermodel Nikki Howard.  Now she is no longer an average teen, but instead has to learn how to fulfill Nikki's modeling obligations and keep the big switch a secret.

This is the sort of book that I would expect would start to get old really fast.  Average girl become supermodel, must adjust to new life while still trying to get the attention of her crush.  Thankfully, Cabot is talented enough to keep readers on the edge of their seat with this one.  There is the perfect mix of suspense, drama, fashion and yes, another explosion (I love this about Cabot.  She always includes that right amount of girly with the right amount of blowing stuff up to please me).  I liked that this series wasn't quite what I expected.  I bought it solely because it said MEG CABOT in big letters on the cover, but was worried that it would focus too much on the fashion industry for my tastes.  Thankfully, that is not the case.  I think this series is one that will have a larger audience appeal.  Unlike The Princess Diaries, these books aren't quite as girly or filled with pop culture and I think the dialogue will appeal to more readers.

Happy Reading!

  1. I'm not sure why but I haven't read this series. You're making me think I should start it. Thanks for the great review.
