"The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore" by William Joyce

What a wonderful book!  I was kinda-sorta aware of the premise for it prior to reading it.  I had heard of the short film, but hadn't had the chance to view it yet.  But when I saw the book on a shelf at the library, I snatched it up.  It was exactly the kind of book I wanted it to be.  It's not often that we get a children's picture book that has a lot of heart in it.  Sure, there are funny books, beautifully illustrated book, sad books, books with a lesson.  But it's rare that I come across a book that contains as much emotion as this one.  Maybe it's because I am and always will be a reader at heart.  I can't describe my love for books.  This book captured that emotion in the way that Mr. Morris Lessmore loves his books.
The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore  by WIlliam Joyce is one of those books that I feel should be in every book collection.  It was a very sweet book.  It said a lot without having to say a lot.  I immediately feel in love with Mr. Lessmore- again, crazy book nerd over here, can you blame me?  I got so much joy out of this read.  I waited to watch the short film until after reading the book.  I was surprised to realize that I got the same emotions from the film, but on an even grander scale.  This was the perfect story to adapt.  My only regret was not watching it sooner.  Trust me, if you haven't done so already, you must watch it.  And while you're at it, you must read the book.  All book readers (and I suspect that if you are reading a book blog, then you must be a book lover) must get the opportunity to enjoy this fantastic story!

Happy Reading!

  1. I've actually seen the movie and enjoyed it. I'm sorry they've removed it from circulation, I'd love to watch it again.
